Delhi: Former Indian player and cricket expert Akash Chopra believes that Rajasthan Royals (RR) has signed South African Pesar Nandre Burger for the next Indian Premier League (IPL) season, not for this season. Fast bowler burgers are not available for IPL 2025 at the moment. Burger, who played for Rajasthan Royals in 2024, was signed as a replacement after Sandeep Sharma’s injury, when Royals were ruled out of IPL 2025.
However, when Rajasthan Royals resume their campaign against Punjab Kings in Jaipur on 18 May, Burger will not be part of the team. In this regard, Chopra said on his YouTube channel that he does not understand what the Royals have done because no team will take a player as a replacement, who is already injured.
Akash Chopra raised questions on RR
Chopra said, “Jofra is not an archer. Nandre is not even a burger. Burgers do not come, or they are already injured. They are not available, and I am thinking, what have you done? You brought him as Sandeep Sharma’s replacement, but why will you take an injured player as a replacement?”
Chopra says that Royals did not think about this season, but they are signing the burger keeping in mind the next year’s IPL auction.
The former Indian player further said, “They have done it for next year. Rajasthan has not thought about this year at all because he cannot play Nandre Burger, because he is not available. He has chosen a player who is not available, so that he can perform well in the next year’s auction. It is a very interesting decision.”
Burger has taken 7 wickets in 6 matches so far in IPL. The left -handed pace was signed on 8 May, when the IPL was suspended, this means that Royals can retain them in the IPL 2026 auction.
