Delhi: Ravi Shastri, former coach of the Indian cricket team, described Virat Kohli as the great player of the modern era and said that he has been a different status cricketer. He said this in an interview to Cricbuj on Monday. It is known that Kohli has announced his retirement from Test cricket.
Ravi Shastri said, “He was a different class cricketer. He has been the most influential cricketer of the last decade. There are many memories that can never be forgotten, some are very private for me. He played the brand cricket that was not associated with any other Indian player or captain, as I wrote in my social media posts (x, first Twitter), he is actually a modern era.”
Kohli took over the captaincy during the Test series in Australia in 2014 and since then the partnership of both lasted till 2021. Shastri said, “He falls under the category of great players whom everyone gives respect.”
Shastri earlier wrote on his social media handle, “Can’t believe you have retired. You are the veteran of the modern era and the ambassador of Test cricket, the way you played and captained, he is fantastic. Thank you for the memories that you and especially I gave to me.
It is worth noting that Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli worked together as coaches and captains respectively for many years. Especially in India’s Test, the historic series in Australia is one of the memorable moments received under the guidance of Shastri. Apart from this, both of them won Team India in many series.
