Veteran Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement from international cricket in December last year. Ashwin (522) is the second bowler to take the most wickets in Tests for India. He is the only Indian cricketer to score a century and take five wickets on four different occasions in the same Test match.

Ashwin has also won two ICC trophies for India. He was part of the Indian team that won the 2011 World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy under the captaincy of MS Dhoni.

In view of Ashwin’s contribution to Indian cricket, he has been awarded the Padma Shri Award by the Government of India. President Draupadi Murmu honored Ashwin with the Padma Shri Award at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday, 28 April.
