Delhi: In IPL 2025, Chennai Super Kings veteran MS Dhoni is facing criticism these days. The reason is their batting order, playing less ball and not able to finish match. The formula which used to be effective earlier, in the end and scoring fast runs, it is not proving to be as effective for the team now. Meanwhile, Punjab Kings head coach and former Australia captain Ricky Ponting has given his opinion about Dhoni’s future.
What did Ponting say?
In a conversation with Indian Express, Ricky Ponting said, “Dhoni’s retirement depends on how his season is. If he performs well with the bat, he can continue to play. But if the performance falls, he will definitely consider it.”
Ponting also praised Dhoni’s wicketkeeping fiercely and said that there has been no decrease in his quickness. The way he has made opportunities standing near the stump against the spinners, he is still the same.
Dhoni’s batting order defended
Ponting defended CSK’s strategy amid Dhoni’s late batting criticisms. He said, “CSK’s team is one of the most successful teams in IPL history. They have the same coaching staff for years and they usually take the right decisions. Now due to the impact player rule, Dhoni bats in lower order. His role has been limited in the last few years, but he can still have a big impact in the last few balls.”
Dhoni’s performance so far
Dhoni has so far scored a total of 76 runs in four innings this season. When he batting at number 9 in a match against RCB, he was criticized a lot. Fans believe that they should come up and take responsibility.
At the moment, Dhoni’s future rests on how much his bat speaks in this season. But, in the eyes of Ricky Ponting, Dhoni still remains a “dangerous player” in the IPL.
