Delhi: Indian wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant, who was injured on the first day of the Manchester Test, has now been eliminated from the rest of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Fractures have come in his right toe and doctors have advised him to comfort at least 6 weeks.
However, the team management is considering that if needed, Pant can take a painkiller in the second innings to bat for batting. The final decision on this will be taken after the advice of the medical team.
How did the injury?
Rishabh Pant was batting for 37 runs on the first day, when he tried to play reverse sweep off the ball of Chris Woakes. However, the ball took the inner edge of his bat directly to his right leg. The injury was so serious that Pant was immediately taken out of the ground in a vehicle like golf cart. The medical team scanned after treatment, which confirmed the fracture.
Pant was not with the team the second day
Pant did not reach the Old Trafford Stadium with the team on the second day. Doctors have advised him to relax. According to reports, he is not able to put weight on the leg right now and he is also getting difficult to walk.
A source told the Indian Express, “He has a fracture in his leg and he is out for 6 weeks. The medical team is watching if he can bat again with painkiller. But, he needs support to walk right now.”
Not only this, according to the report of Dainik Jagran, Pant has told the team management that if needed, he is ready to bat in the fourth Test match, he can also take a pain medicine to bat for batting.
What will happen next?
According to the Hindustan Times report, Pant’s next possible return may be in the domestic Test series against the West Indies in October 2025. If he is not fit by then, then he can return to the ODI series against Australia.
Significantly, even during Lord’s Test, Pant was hurt in hand, due to which he could not do wicketkeeping. But he batted and played a brilliant innings of 74 runs.
Now everyone’s eyes are on whether Pant will be able to return to the field in the second innings or not.
