Delhi: The performance of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has been very disappointing. He has scored only 128 runs in 129 balls in 9 matches, which is considered to be his worst performance in the tournament so far.
Pant’s poor form has also had a direct impact on the performance of the team. In such a situation, former Indian cricketer and batting coach Sanjay Bangar reviewed Pant’s technology and said that the batsman is in confusion and has forgotten his strength.
Bangar said on Star Sports, “We need to identify that he is still completely completely white ball format (ODI and T20). He is a great batsman in Test cricket. There is no doubt, but in this season I saw that he was out in trying to play the shot behind the wicket several times.”
He further said, “When Pant is in his best form, he sends cover drives, shots from above the mid -wicket and directly to the audience gallery. But, this time he got entangled in trying to play reverse sweep and very fine shots.”
Bangar said, “When you try to score runs in front of the ground, then the rest of the angles open. But if you are thinking of scoring runs only in the back direction, then you are late on the front balls and are not able to come in the right position.”
Robin Uthappa also criticized
Former Indian batsman Robin Uthappa also criticized Pant and said that Pant does not have the clarity of his role. After the match against Punjab Kings, he said, “The batsman inside Rishabh Pant is lost in Confusion.”
Uthappa said, “The match in which he did not bat himself and sent Abdul Samad above himself, he shows that he did not understand his role.”
However, Uthappa also added that Pant’s best place is number 3, where he can come without pressure and attack the bowlers.
He further said, “Even when India won the 2024 World Cup, Pant was still batting at number 3. This is his zone. Come straight and dominate the bowlers. He also batted openly against CSK in the same season.”
