Delhi: Indian captain Rohit Sharma has reportedly accused famous cricketer and renowned commentator Sunil Gavaskar of being “too negative”. This controversy came to light recently during the Australia Test tour.

Gavaskar’s questions on Rohit

Rohit’s performance on the Australia tour was very poor. He scored only 31 runs in 5 innings and his average was 6.20. This is considered to be the worst performance of any captain on Australian soil.

During this time, Sunil Gavaskar wrote in his column in Sydney Morning Herald, “Rohit Sharma did not appear to be in his depth and took a bold decision to withdraw due to form. But, this decision has raised big questions on his Test career.”

Gavaskar had also said in the live commentary that if Rohit did not score runs in Melbourne and Sydney, he would himself step down from the captaincy. Will not wait for the selectors’ decision for this.

Rohit complained

According to reports, Rohit raised this issue with BCCI. He said that such criticism by Gavaskar was not necessary and it affected his focus.

According to sources, “Gavaskar talked about making Jasprit Bumrah the Test captain when Rohit was out of the first match in Perth due to paternity leave. All these things put a lot of pressure on Rohit, due to which he told his views to BCCI.”

Now Rohit Sharma will make a comeback in the ODI series against England starting from February 6 in Nagpur. This three-match series is considered an important preparation before the ICC Champions Trophy to be held in Pakistan and UAE in 2025.
