Delhi: India’s ODI and Test captain Rohit Sharma has said that representing the country is the biggest priority for him. Rohit, playing for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 for Mumbai Indians (Mi), said this before the upcoming five -match Test series against England.

Rohit announced his retirement from T20 international cricket after making India champions in T20 World Cup 2024. However, he says that all three formats of cricket (Test, ODI and T20) are equally important for him.

Speaking at the Beyond23 Cricket Podcast, Rohit said, “It is the biggest thing for me to represent the country. I do not consider the Test above T20 nor do I keep T20 above the Test. All three forms are equal and necessary for me.”

Recently, under the captaincy of Rohit, India won the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 title, where Team India defeated New Zealand in the final to win the title. Now Rohit will once again lead the team in the Red-Ball series against England as a Test captain.

Signs of return of Bumrah-Shami

Rohit Sharma also indicated that fast bowlers Jaspreet Bumrah and Mohammed Shami may be part of the Test team against England.

He said, “We wanted Bumrah, Shami and the rest of the bowlers to be fully fit before the England tour. If our team goes to England with full fitness, then we can get to see a great series. It is going to be a big challenge for us.”

Significantly, Jasprit Bumrah last played for India in a five -Test series against Australia, in which he was injured during the fifth match. In that test, he was also captaining the team.

At the same time, Mohammed Shami played the last Test against Australia in June 2023. He did not play in the last Australia tour of India, as he was in the process of recovering from the injury in the final of the ODI World Cup 2023.

England tour starts from June 20

After the conclusion of IPL 2025, Team India will leave for England tour from June 20, where a five -Test series will be played. This series will be India’s first challenge in the new cycle of the ICC World Test Championship.
