Delhi: The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has decided to give special honors to former Indian captain (late) Ajit Wadekar and ICC T20 World Cup 2025 winning captain Rohit Sharma. An important resolution was passed in the annual general meeting of the MCA held on Tuesday, under which some stands of Wankhede Stadium will be named after these veterans.
Another proposal submitted by MCA’s Apex Council members and politicians Jitendra Awhad and Milind Narvekar was also approved. Under this, the Grand Stand Level 3 will be named after former MCA, BCCI and ICC President Sharad Pawar. At the same time, the newly constructed lounge of the MCA office will be dedicated to the memory of the late MCA President Amol Kale.
MCA President Ajit Naik informed the media after AGM, “Grand Stand Level 3 Now Sharad Pawar Stand, Grand Stand 4 Level 4 Now Ajit Wadekar Stand, and Vitthal Divecha Level 3 Now Rohit Sharma Stand will be known as Rohit Sharma Stand.
Former administrator Ratnakar Shetty accepted the MCA Lifetime Achievement Award last year and raised the demand to honor Ajit Wadekar in his speech. Wadekar won India in 1971 against the West Indies and England, which led to a new revolution in Indian cricket.
MCA Secretary Abhay Hadp said that there was a discussion in the AGM that there should not be any private or club tournament conflict with inter-school competitions like Harris Shield and Giles Shield. Special attention will be paid to this.
