Delhi: The current IPL season of veteran opener Rohit Sharma has been very disappointing so far. He has performed poorly in the four matches played in this edition, which has also affected his team Mumbai Indians (Mi). Mumbai has faced defeat in four out of five matches. Recently, the team lost the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in a winning position.
However, a great news has come out for Rohit amidst this bad form. According to media reports, Rohit may soon get a special honor in the Wankhede Stadium.
According to a report by the Indian Express, in the Council meeting of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), it has been proposed that a stand of Wankhede Stadium should be done after Rohit Sharma. Rohit is counted among the best cricketers in Mumbai and Team India has received two ICC trophies under his captaincy.
If this proposal passes, Rohit’s name will also be included in the list of those great players, who have Stadium stands, such as Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Vijay Merchant and Dilip Vengsarkar.
Apart from Rohit, the names that have been discussed include Sharad Pawar, Vilasrao Deshmukh, Ajit Wadekar, Ekalath Solkar, Dilip Sardesai, Padmakar Shivalkar and Dina Idulji.
Final decision will be taken on 15 April
The final decision on this proposal will be taken in the AGM (General Assembly meeting) of MCA to be held on April 15. Currently, the East stand of Wankhede Stadium is named after Sunil Gavaskar, named after West Stand Vijay Merchant, and the North Stand has been dedicated to Dilip Vengsarkar and Sachin Tendulkar.
