Delhi: Under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, India had to face defeat in the Pink Ball Test against Australia in Adelaide. This was the fourth consecutive defeat for Rohit as captain. Earlier, India had lost 3-0 in the three Test matches played against New Zealand. Now former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh told why Rohit Sharma’s captaincy is not succeeding.

Bad form is affecting captaincy

According to Harbhajan Singh, Rohit Sharma’s poor batting form is also affecting his captaincy. Statistics also prove this to be true. In the first 6 Test matches of the year, Rohit scored 455 runs at an average of 45.50, and during this, Team India was successful in winning 5 out of 6 Tests. But after that his average in the next 6 Test matches dropped to 23.66, and he scored only 142 runs. During this period, Team India won 4 out of 6 matches.

Harbhajan told the reason for bad captaincy

Harbhajan Singh said, “When such a big player does not score runs, it becomes a matter of concern. We know that Rohit has great ability, and he has scored a lot of runs for India. However, he could not perform well in this match and the last series. When runs are not scored, the pressure on the batsman increases, and this pressure can also affect the captaincy.”

He further said, “We hope that Rohit returns to form soon. Grounds like Brisbane are better for his playing style. They will have to leave this match behind and think ahead about what can be improved further and how the team can play better, because the performance of the team is more important than their individual form.”
