Delhi: The Indian Premier League (IPL), on Sunday, April 13 in Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on April 13, a different scene was seen during the match played between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). During Rajasthan’s innings, when Shimron Hetmyer came to bat at number five, the umpire checked the size of his bat.
Umpire checked Hetmyer-Sult’s bat
Hetmyer came to the crease on the last ball of the 16th over after Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed. As soon as he arrived, the umpire stopped the game for some time and measured the width and thickness of the bat of Hetmyer from the bat gauge. This measurement was done to see if the bat of Hetmyer is according to the rules of the IPL or not.
This did not happen only with Hetmyer. Before the start of RCB’s innings, the umpire also checked the bat of Phil Salt.
About IPL rules bat What do you say?
- The length of the bat should not exceed 38 inches (96.52 cm).
- The width of the blade should not exceed 4.25 inches (10.8 cm).
- Bat’s thickness (depth) should be limited to 2.64 inches (6.7 cm) and the thickness of the edges to 1.56 inches (4.0 cm).
- The bat should be easily removed from the special bat gauge.
- The handle of the bat should not exceed 52% of the total length.
Earlier, during a domestic match in England, such a case came to light where a batsman’s bat was not according to the rules. The player was asked to change the bat and his team was also sentenced to the points.
However, there is no such rule in the IPL at the moment in which the team loses the points. If the bat of Hetmyer turns out to be bigger than the fixed standards, then they were asked to change the bat only.
The good thing is that Hetmyer’s bat passed in the investigation and he continued batting without any hassle. This incident was quite interesting for fans and audience because such moments are usually seen on the field.
