Shai Hope has been appointed as the captain of the West Indies white ball team for the first time. The T20 series against England will begin this new role. He will take command of the team in place of Rowman Powell and hopes that the team under his leadership will move in a new direction.
The West Indies Cricket Board (CWI) has clarified that Brandon King, Test captain Roston Chase and Andre Russell will be available only for the England series. In the series against Ireland, new players have been given a chance. Brandon King took a break during this period for personal reasons, while Andre Russell will be absent due to his commitments with La Knight Riders in Major League Cricket (MLC). Roston Chase will attend the Test camp to be held in Barbados from 13 to 21 June after the England T20 Eye, where he will prepare for the white ball series against Australia.
Nicholas Puran has been rested from both series. According to CWI, he sought rest after playing in IPL for a long time, which was accepted. This decision has been taken keeping in mind their workload.
Some young faces are included in the Ireland series. Z Guli, who has been a part of the 2016 Under-19 World Cup team. He has been replaced by Roston Chase in the team. At the same time, Casey Carte has been made part of the team in the absence of Brandon King.
It is clear from these changes that the West Indies Cricket Board is working towards creating a strong team with the balance of experienced and young players.
