Delhi: A great news has emerged for Indian cricket fans. Team India star batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad will now be seen playing for England’s prestigious county team Yorkshire. The Yorkshire Club has shared information on its website that Gaekwad will join the team before the match against Surrey in July and will be with the team by the end of the season.
Gaikwad, who is currently part of the India A team on the tour of England, has so far played two four-day unofficial Tests against England Lions and their final match will be an Intra-Squad four-day match against the senior team in Bekenham between 13 and 16 June.
Regarding Gaikwad, Yorkshire said, “As the captain of Chennai Super Kings and the leader of Maharashtra in the Ranji Trophy, these Pune players are a very skilled batsman. He has 6 ODIs and 23 T20 Internationals in his name. He can bat anywhere in the top order and has also opened up for India if needed.”
Gaikwad himself expressed happiness over the occasion and said, “I have always had a dream that I can experience cricket in England and there can be no club bigger than Yorkshire. I know it is an important phase and I have to perform immediately for the team. There are many important matches for us in the county championship and this is also a great chance to win one-day Cup.”
However, the current situation of Yorkshire is a bit challenging, where the team is in the last place in the 10 teams of Division One, in which they have won 1 match so far, 4 have lost and 2 matches have been drawn. In such a situation, the entry of Gaikwad can bring new hope for the team.
