Delhi: The 8th match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 was played on 26 February at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, where Afghanistan registered a thrilling victory and dropped England out of the tournament. With this brilliant performance, Afghanistan’s hopes of reaching the semi -finals remained intact.
Batting first, Afghanistan scored a strong score of 325/7 in 50 overs. Young batsman Ibrahim Jadaran played a brilliant innings of 177 runs from 146 balls and strengthened the foundation of the team. Afghanistan was successful in setting a big goal in front of England thanks to his explosive performance.
The England team struggled to chase the target, but was all out by scoring 317 runs in 49.5 overs. Joe Root scored a century (115 runs), but could not win the team. Afghanistan’s Ajmatullah Umarzai bowled deadly and took 5 wickets for 58 runs in 10 overs and gave the team a memorable victory.
Many veterans of the cricket world appreciated this historic victory of Afghanistan. India’s legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar praised Afghanistan on social media and wrote that now his victory cannot be called “upset”, because he has made it his habit.
