Delhi: Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif recently compared Rishabh Pant with the great Indian wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni. Ahead of the announcement of the squad for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, it is a topic of discussion as to who will be selected for the wicketkeeper slot. The names of KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson are at the forefront in this race.

Mohammad Kaif gave statement

Mohammad Kaif, while sharing his views, said that Sanju Samson has left Pant behind on the basis of recent T20 form. However, he also admitted that Pant’s brilliant performance in Test cricket has almost taken him to the level of Dhoni.

Kaif said, “Sanju Samson has moved ahead. This has to be understood. People’s emotions are attached to Rishabh Pant. He is a big match winner in test matches. Who can forget Gaba’s innings and his century in South Africa? He performs brilliantly in foreign countries. Even as a wicketkeeper, Pant is better than Sanju Samson. He has come close to the level of MS Dhoni.”

The former cricketer further said, “Rishabh Pant will have to understand the reality. If someone is telling them wrong things, then he is not talking about their welfare. Pant will have to work hard. His ODI figures are not that impressive.”

Pant vs Samson in ODI

Rishabh Pant has so far scored 871 runs in 31 ODI matches, his average is 33.50, which includes one century and five half-centuries. On the other hand, Sanju Samson has scored 510 runs in 16 matches, his average is 56.66, with one century and three half-centuries.

Now it will be interesting to see who the selectors choose for the Champions Trophy.
