Delhi: The problems of former Bangladesh captain and veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan are not showing any signs of abating. A few months ago, the International Cricket Council (ICC) had banned Shakib’s bowling, after which his action test was conducted, but he has failed in it for the second time also.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has confirmed that Shakib’s bowling suspension in international and domestic matches will continue. The board said in a statement issued on Saturday, “The suspension imposed on Shakib will continue following the investigation conducted by Loughborough University. To end the suspension, he will have to pass the test again successfully. Shakib cannot bowl, but as a batsman he can play in all formats.
It is noteworthy that Shakib’s bowling action was found suspicious during the county match held in England in September last year, and in December last year, he was found to have failed the bowling action test conducted by UK’s Loughborough University. After this, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) suspended Shakib as per ICC rules.
Due to this ban, Shakib has not got a place in the team for the upcoming Champions Trophy. Bangladesh Cricket Board on Sunday announced its team for the Champions Trophy, in which Nazmul Hasan Shanto has been made the captain, but Shakib’s name is not included in the team. Bangladesh team will play without Shakib in this big tournament. Apart from this, Liton Das has also not got a place in the team. Shakib has taken 712 wickets so far in international cricket, which includes 246 wickets in Test, 317 in ODI and 149 in T20I. He has also been the number one all-rounder in the ICC rankings.
