Delhi: The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has requested Shakib Al Hasan to get his bowling action examined. The ECB took this step after the umpires had filed a report regarding Shakib’s bowling action while playing for Surrey in the County Championship. The 37-year-old left-arm spinner took 9 wickets in the final match against Somerset in Taunton in September. This was the first time since 2010-11 that Shakib played in the County Championship.

Let us tell you that in the absence of key spinners like Will Jacques and Dan Lawrence, Surrey had signed a limited period contract with Shakib. However, despite Shakib’s excellent bowling, Somerset won by 111 runs and Surrey missed out on winning its third consecutive title.
In that match, Shakib bowled more than 63 overs, but none of his balls were declared a throw and no ball was given. Now it has come to light that the on-field umpires found his bowling action suspicious. At present, he has not been stopped from playing, but according to ESPNcricinfo, arrangements are being made at a venue to test Shakib’s action and this process could be completed in the coming weeks.
Shakib Al Hasan’s international career
For the first time in Shakib’s two decade long career, his bowling action is being scrutinized. In his international career, he has taken 712 wickets in 447 matches, which includes 246 wickets in 71 Tests. Shakib’s international cricket is currently in uncertainty as he had withdrawn his name from the Test series against South Africa due to security reasons.
