Delhi: India’s domestic ODI tournament Vijay Hazare Trophy is moving towards its final stage. At present pre-quarterfinal matches are being played. Indian team’s veteran fast bowler Mohammed Shami took part in the match between Bengal and Haryana on Thursday, January 9. Although Shami was beaten a lot in the beginning of the match, he made a brilliant comeback and took revenge with his bowling. Shami sent Himanshu Rana to the pavilion with a brilliant ball, to which the batsman had no answer. Due to his precise line and length, Himanshu looked helpless in front of the waving ball and was caught.
In this pre-quarterfinal played in Vadodara, Bengal won the toss and decided to bowl. The captain handed the new ball to the most experienced bowler Mohammed Shami, but he had a bad start. Shami gave away 14 runs in the very first over and spent a total of 27 runs in his first three overs. Arsh Ranga hit Shami for two consecutive sixes, while Himanshu Rana also hit two fours off his ball.
However, Shami made a comeback in the 7th over and dismissed Himanshu Rana brilliantly on the very first ball. On the other hand, Mukesh Kumar increased the pressure on Haryana’s innings by sending Arsh Ranga to the pavilion. Shami bowled 5 overs in his first spell, in which he took 1 wicket for 32 runs.
Let us tell you that the right-arm pacer last played for the Indian team in the ODI World Cup on 19 November 2023. After this, he was out of the team due to injury. After surgery and rehab, he returned to the field in Ranji Trophy, but due to knee problem could not make a place in Team India for the Australia tour.
Now Shami has a chance to prove his fitness in Vijay Hazare Trophy. If he performs well in this tournament, he can be included in the team for the ODI series against England. After this, the doors of Champions Trophy 2025 can also open for them.
