Delhi: Pakistani captain Shan Masood has done such a feat on South African soil, which till now big batsmen could not do. After the follow-on, Shan Masood took command and performed brilliantly to save the Pakistani team, who came to bat in the second innings, from an innings defeat. During this he broke a 27 year old record.

The biggest test innings in South Africa

Shan Masood has scored unbeaten 137 runs in the second innings, which is the best score by any Pakistani batsman in South Africa. Earlier, in 1998, Azhar Mahmood had played an inning of 136 runs in South Africa. Apart from this, Taufiq Umar played an inning of 135 runs and Saeed Anwar played an inning of 118 runs. Now the record of the biggest test innings in South Africa is in the name of Shan Masood. Also, Masood is the second Pakistani captain to score a century against South Africa. Before this, Misbah ul Haq had scored a century in Abu Dhabi in the year 2013.

Big partnership with Babar Azam

Shan Masood took charge of the team after follow-on and made a partnership of 205 runs with Babar Azam. However, after Babar Azam’s dismissal, Khurram Shehzad and Kamran Ghulam also soon returned to the pavilion. Despite this, Shan Masood maintained one end. Now the team faces the challenge of avoiding innings defeat.

less hope for a draw

Pakistan’s position remains weak till the fourth day of the match. Although Shan Masood’s innings has definitely given some hope to the team, but the chances of victory or draw seem less.
