Delhi: Former Pakistani fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar, popularly known as Rawalpindi Express, has recently praised Saqlain Mushtaq. Shoaib called him the greatest spin bowler in the world. Saqlain Mushtaq is remembered in cricket history as a spinner who always troubled the batsmen with his unique bowling. He is considered the father of the ‘Doosra’ ball, which brought a new revolution in off-spin bowling.
Former Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan has also admitted that he got to learn the art of ‘doosra’ ball from Saqlain Mushtaq, which gave a new dimension to his career. Saqlain not only took Pakistan cricket to new heights but also gave a new identity to spin bowling.
49-year-old Shoaib Akhtar said in an interview to Zee News, “Saqlain Mushtaq is the greatest spin bowler in the world for me. He changed the face of cricket with his bowling. By inventing a ball like ‘Doosra’, he gave new heights to spin bowling. There can be no other spinner like him in the world.”
It is noteworthy that Saqlain Mushtaq’s cricket record is very impressive. He played 49 matches in Test cricket, in which he took 208 wickets and his best bowling was 8/164. Whereas in ODI cricket, Saqlain took a total of 288 wickets in 169 matches, in which his best performance was 5/20.
