Delhi: Team India batsman Shreyas Iyer recently spoke openly about the criticisms leveled on his game. There was a lot of discussion about his weakness against short pitch balls. Because of this he had to be dropped from the Test team also. However, the selectors have expressed confidence in him in the 50 over format and have included him in the team for the Champions Trophy.
30 year old Shreyas performed brilliantly in domestic cricket and scored big runs in all formats, due to which he again got a place in the Indian team.
Shreyas expressed his displeasure
“It is very frustrating, especially when people, who have never faced a 150 kmph ball, start telling you how to play,” Shreyas said at the Indian Express’ Idea Exchange programme. But, I would say that this is his opinion. They have every right to express their views, but these things should not be said directly to the players.”
Great performance in the World Cup
The Indian team hopes that Shreyas will repeat his 2023 World Cup performance in the Champions Trophy as well. He scored 530 runs in 11 innings in the World Cup, which included two centuries and three half-centuries.
The star batsman mentioned his most memorable innings during the World Cup. This inning was not of the century scored in the semi-final against New Zealand, but of the 82 runs scored in the league match against Sri Lanka.
He said, “The inning of 82 runs against Sri Lanka is my memorable innings. At that time there was talk of removing me from the team and it was being said that I was not able to contribute much to the team. Although, I had scored 50 runs against Pakistan, still such things were being said. I was a little upset after hearing all this, but it made me stronger from within. I was determined to give 110% in that match. I trusted my instincts and played with full enthusiasm. After that match I made myself a fan. This innings proved to be game-changing for me during the World Cup.”
