Delhi: In the quarter-finals of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 played at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday, Baroda defeated Bengal by 41 runs and made it to the semi-finals. In this exciting match, all eyes were on Mohammed Shami, who had taken Bengal to the quarter-finals with a brilliant all-round performance in the last match.

Shami’s previous performance

In the last match, Shami, batting at number 10, scored unbeaten 32 runs in 17 balls and took Bengal to a respectable score of 159/9. Even in bowling, he bowled an economical spell of 1/13 in the first three overs. Shami has played 9 domestic matches so far this season, which includes one Ranji Trophy and eight T20 matches. Overall, he has taken 16 wickets after bowling 64 overs.

Baroda’s explosive entry

On the other hand, Baroda has impressed everyone with its explosive batting in this tournament. He set a record by scoring the highest score (349/5) in men’s T20 cricket against Sikkim. His excellent form had raised alarm bells for Bengal.

Status of quarter final match

Baroda made a great start by batting first. The aggressive innings of captain Krunal Pandya and Vishnu Solanki took the team to a strong score. In bowling, Atit Sheth and Lukman Meriwala did not let the Bengal batsmen survive.
On behalf of Bengal, captain Sudeep Kumar Gharami and Shahbaz Ahmed showed some fight, but their innings fell behind by 41 runs in front of Baroda’s lethal bowling.
