Main point:
After the injury of Rishabh Pant in the Manchester Test, the debate on the replacement of the injured players has erupted. Gautam Gambhir is in favor of this while Ben Stokes is strongly against it. When Gambhir described it as necessary, Stokes said that the teams will take wrong advantage of this.
Delhi: India’s wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant got injured in the leg while batting on the first day of the Manchester Test. For him, Dhruv Juril was launched as a standby keeper behind the wicket, but Pant still had to bat in pain because the player is not allowed to replace the player due to injury in Test cricket. This issue has launched a new debate in the cricket world.
Stokes gave his opinion
England captain Ben Stokes is against any change in this rule. They believe that if replacement is allowed due to injury, then teams can take advantage of it wrongly.
Stokes said, “I think this whole conversation is useless. If such a rule comes, the teams will find deficiencies. When you choose 11 players, the injury is also a part of the game. This conversation should end here.”
Gautam Gambhir supported
On the other hand, India’s coach Gautam Gambhir’s thinking is completely different on this issue. He believes that if a player suffers a serious injury and the umpire and the match referee are also clearly seen, then the substitute should be allowed.
Gambhir said, “I am in favor of injury replacement, if the umpire and referee feels that the injury is very serious, then there should be a substitute. There is no problem. Especially when the series is so thorny. Think if we have to play with 10 players, how much loss.”
So far, the substitute is allowed for the head injury, which was implemented in 2014 after the sad death of Australian batsman Phil Hughes. However, there is no such rule on any other serious injury.
Now the question is whether Test cricket should be changed over time or not. Should the safety of the players be given priority or should the traditional rituals of the game remain in the same way?
