Delhi: Team India’s T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav has got a chance to lead the Mumbai Indians team against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the first match of 2025 IPL. The match will be played on Sunday, 23 March.

Hardik Pandya was banned for a match due to poor over-rate in the final match of IPL 2024. Therefore, he will not be available in the first match of IPL this year.
The reason for making Suryakumar Yadav captain
Hardik confirmed in the press conference on 19 March that Suryakumar Yadav has been made the captain in the first match. Hardik said, “Suryakumar Yadav is the T20I captain of India, so it will be perfect for him to captain the Mi team.”

1 match ban
MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene said that he has been officially informed about a match ban on Hardik in IPL 2024. In the last season, Mi played its final league stage with Lucknow Super Giants and lost the match by 18 runs. This was his third crime during the season due to poor over-permission in that game and according to the rules, the captain is banned for a match.
