Delhi: In the 18th edition of Gujarat Titans (GT) cricket director Vikram Solanki Indian Premier League (IPL), Shubman Gill’s captaincy and fast bowler Mohammad Siraj’s hard work. Gujarat won the IPL Trophy under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya in its first season in 2022. Subsequently, the team reached the final in 2023, but then Gill took over the captaincy and Pandya returned to his old franchise Mumbai Indians.
GT, under Gill’s debut captaincy, finished eighth in the mark with just 5 wins in the last season. But this time, the team has won the same win in seven matches. Solanki believes that Gill still has a lot to learn under the captaincy, but he is constantly getting enhanced in this role.
Solanki said in a press conference before the match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), “The coordination with the bowling group, we had also seen last year. He is growing in this role from one match to another. He is developing his captaincy style, which is very pleasant to see.”
He further said, “He has an experienced bowling attack, which he can trust, which is definitely helpful. But, he is getting better in terms of captaincy.”
Solanki described Mohammad Siraj as his biggest strength. Siraj has taken 11 wickets in 7 matches so far this season and he is the most wicket -taking bowler for the franchise. Solanki believes that head coach Ashish Nehra has had a big influence on Siraj and ‘Mian Magic’ is getting a lot of color in this IPL.
Solanki said, “He (Nehra and Siraj) is definitely a deep understanding, but I would not say that all this is due to the coaching staff. We should also appreciate Siraj’s hard work. The hard work he has done is capable.”
The former England player further said, “It seems that we have a player who has to prove himself. He must have been disappointed, but he has converted that disappointment into hard work and decided what he has to do.
