Delhi: Career can change anytime in the world of sports. After winning the ICC U19 World Cup in 2008, Virat Kohli started a great career in cricket and today he is one of the best batsmen in the world. But his other fellow players, who were part of the same team, could not achieve such success in cricket. Now that Virat is starting a new journey with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL 2025 season, his old partner Tanmay Srivastava will start umpiring in the IPL.
Tanmay’s cricket career
Tanmay Srivastava scored the most runs in the U19 World Cup final for India in 2008. However, his cricket career could not reach a height like Virat. He could not reach the height of success even after getting a chance to play in the IPL with Punjab Kings.
Talking to the Times of India, Tanmay said, “I understood that I was not capable of playing IPL as good as I could, and I had to decide whether I have to prolong my life as a player or move towards another successful life.”

Decision to quit cricket
Tanmay decided to quit cricket at the age of 30, while he was the captain of Uttarakhand team and also played for Uttar Pradesh. He made up his mind to do something new in cricket. This decision was not easy for him, but he took a step towards doing something different in his life.
Tanmay says, “I told Rajiv Shukla that I want to do something else instead of becoming a player in cricket, because I was only 30 years old, but we considered it and considered the options about it at the National Cricket Academy.
Till to umpiring
After choosing umpiring as a career, Tanmay worked hard in this field. He prepared for the exam for umpiring and also handled other cricket works. He was also a talent scout for RCB and coach in the National Cricket Academy. Tanmay says, “I had to study and study overnight.
Meet Virat in 2025
Tanmay believes that the cricket board is encouraging new players to umpiring, so that the old umpires do not have to depend much. Tanmay said, “I am still in contact with Virat, and I hope that I will meet him in the IPL and now I am trying to make my mark in the field of umpiring.”
