Delhi: India handed the match to Australia in the Melbourne Test by losing 7 wickets in 20.4 overs, after which on Monday, head coach Gautam Gambhir gave a strict message to the entire team in the dressing room. Gambhir said, “Enough.” He expressed his displeasure openly.
Gautam Gambhir’s clear message
According to the report of The Indian Express, Gambhir did not take anyone’s name, but his indication was clear that the players are playing as per their own wish in the name of “natural game”, whereas playing should be done as per the situation. He had allowed the team to play as per his wish for the last six months. But, now it has been made clear that from now on the team will play according to their strategy. He also hinted that players who do not follow his plan could be dropped from the team.
team status
India is currently trailing 1-2 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and qualifying for the World Test Championship final is finding it difficult. Gambhir tried to explain to the players that their “intentions” were going against the interests of the team. He said that the players are playing as per their own wish instead of following the plan.
question on performance
Gambhir raised questions on the performance of the batsmen, which has been weak of late, especially since the Bangladesh series. During the Melbourne Test, Virat Kohli touched an outgoing ball just before lunch and was out. Rishabh Pant played a lap shot in the first innings and lost his wicket by hitting a pull shot in the second innings. Captain Rohit Sharma, being in bad form, also lost his wicket by playing a wrong shot. Yashasvi Jaiswal also played a pull shot at a bad time, which decided the team’s defeat.
tension in the dressing room
According to sources, the atmosphere of the dressing room is not in ideal condition. There was some tension even before the first test. Gambhir wanted experienced Cheteshwar Pujara to be included in the team, but the selectors rejected this suggestion.
