Delhi: England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has implemented a new policy, under which transgender women have been banned from participating in all levels of women’s cricket in England – whether it is professional, amateur or ground level. This decision has been implemented with immediate effect.

ECB said in its statement, “Our amateur cricket rules were always made with the aim that cricket could be developed as an inclusive sport. However, this change has become necessary given the new guidance we have received after the recent decision of the UK Supreme Court.”

The board also clarified that it stands against discrimination and is committed to promoting respect, equality and inclusion in sports.

Anaya Bangar’s response: “This is not just a rule, a message”

Indian transgender cricketer Anaya Bangar has expressed her displeasure and disappointment over this decision of ECB. In an emotional message shared on Instagram, he wrote, “Whatever is watching the news from England today – yes, ECB has now officially excluded trans women not only from professional cricket, but also from the game of amateur and ground level. This is not just a rule. It is a message.”

Bangar, while addressing the transgender community, gave a message of courage and hope, “They can control the pitch, but not on our passion. It is not the end of our innings.”
