Delhi: Former Indian cricketer and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar criticized Punjab Kings (PBKS) star Batter Glenn Maxwell. He said that Maxwell’s performance has been disappointing in IPL 2025. Manjrekar compared his form to “Helise Comat”, which appears once every 76 years.

Maxwell’s performance

After the initial wicket of Punjab Kings against Rajasthan, Maxwell came for batting in the seventh over. He hit a six and three fours, but his performance was not the same. Finally, Sri Lankan spinner Mahesh Thakkshana dismissed him. Reacting to this, Manjrekar said that Maxwell is like cricket’s “Helise Commit”, who wait for 75 matches for a good match.

Navjot Singh Sidhu did not agree with Manjrekar’s opinion. However, he said that Maxwells perform well in a match, but they do well in a match, out of about 25 matches.

Punjab King’s defeat

Despite Punjab Kings falling early wickets, Nihal Vaheerra raised hopes with his batting. He scored 62 runs in 41 balls, including three sixes and four fours. Despite this innings, PBKS could only score a score of 155/9 and lost by 50 runs against Rajasthan Royals.

Maxwell’s poor form

In the first match of IPL, Maxwell was dismissed for Golden Duck against Gujarat Titans. However, later the ball-tracking technique showed that he could have been not out if he had taken a review. He did not even get a chance to bat in the match against Lucknow Super Giants.

IPL and international performance

Maxwell’s form has not been well recently. He scored just 39 runs in three matches in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Apart from this, there was no significant improvement in their performance against Sri Lanka and India. Maxwell’s stocks declined in last year’s mega auction, as they did not get a big bid. Punjab Kings bought him for Rs 4.20 crore, where Australian coach Ricky Ponting is to help him. If Maxwells fail in good performance, PBKS has an option to include another Australian player, wicketkeeper-butter Josh English.
