Delhi: Former Indian cricket team captain Sunil Gavaskar has praised young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy and described him as the shining star of Indian cricket. Nitish scored a brilliant century on the third day of the fourth test match against Australia. This was his first century in Test cricket, in which he scored 114 runs in the first innings of the Melbourne Test. However, despite this innings, the Indian team did not win.
Gavaskar compared with Hardik
Gavaskar compared Nitish with Hardik Pandya and said, “In the initial stages, Nitish is proving to be a better batsman than Hardik. The Melbourne Test brought out one of the brightest young stars of Indian cricket, Nitish Kumar Reddy. “He caught the attention of Indian cricket fans after playing for the Hyderabad franchise in the IPL.” Gavaskar also credited the selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar for giving Nitish a chance in Test cricket.
First century in Melbourne
Nitish had earlier played innings of more than 40 runs in Perth and Adelaide, but in Melbourne he scored more than 50 runs for the first time and converted it into a century. With this, he became the third youngest Indian player to score a century in Test cricket in Australia. Before him, only Sachin Tendulkar and Rishabh Pant had achieved this feat. This century was also special for Nitish because his father, Mutyala Reddy, was present in the audience gallery at that time.
Sunil Gavaskar said, “The Melbourne Test brought to the fore of one of the brightest young stars in Indian cricket, Nitish Kumar Reddy. Ever since the unavailability of Hardik Pandya for Test cricket, India has been looking for an all-rounder who can bowl. and bat as well”. pic.twitter.com/1N4mYV2pwq

Nitish’s future is bright
Gavaskar said, “In his debut Test in Perth itself, Nitish had proved that he is a cricketer who plays according to the conditions. When the Indian team was in trouble in the Melbourne Test, Nitish strengthened his place in the team with his century. After Hardik Pandya’s exit from Test cricket, India was looking for an all-rounder who was capable of both bowling and batting, and Nitish seems to be living up to this expectation.
Nitish’s brilliant performance
Nitish has so far scored 294 runs in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia and has also taken three wickets. This performance proves that India has got an emerging all-rounder in this format.
