Delhi: South Africa’s great all-rounder Jacques Kallis is celebrating his 49th birthday today. Kallis was born on 16 October 1975 and is considered one of the greatest all-rounders in world cricket. Recently, former South African leg spinner Imran Tahir shared an interesting anecdote about Kallis on the YouTube channel of former Pakistan wicketkeeper Rashid Latif. He told that Kallis often used to sleep before batting and then go on to score a double century.

Tahir told that when he was new in the team, a test match was going on against Sri Lanka in Cape Town. During that time, Kallis was going to bat at number 3, but when Imran went to the changing room, he saw that Kallis was sleeping and snoring. Imran thought that he had to bat and he was sleeping happily. On this, Morne Morkel advised him not to wake up Kallis, because he might get angry.

Then Imran noticed that when opener Alviro Pietersen was out, Kallis slowly opened his eyes, looked towards the TV, and got up without any worry. He wore gloves and went to the crease and scored a brilliant double century. All this happened in front of Imran Tahir, due to which he was extremely impressed.

If we talk about Kallis’s career, he scored 13289 runs in 166 test matches, which includes 45 centuries and 58 half-centuries. Apart from this, the right-arm pacer also took 292 wickets in Tests. In ODI cricket also, he scored 11579 runs and took 273 wickets. Kallis is still counted among the greatest all-rounders in the world.
