Delhi: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) plan to organize the remaining matches of Pakistan Super League (PSL) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has suffered a major setback. The Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) has indicated not to approve the proposal due to security reasons and regional tension.
A source associated with ECB said that PSL can be denied hosting in view of the recent border tension between India and Pakistan. The source said, “Due to recent incidents, ECB has become cautious about being considered a partner of PCB. Hosting PSL can send a message that the Emirates Board does not want.”
Significantly, the Emirates Cricket Board and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have had good relations in the past years. The UAE has hosted India’s matches in 2021 for the IPL ‘India Edition’, several seasons of the IPL and the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
According to sources, “UAE’s South Asian population loves cricket very much. In such a sensitive environment, organizing a tournament like PSL can be risky for social harmony and security.”
Meanwhile, PCB announced on Friday that the last 8 matches of PSL, which were first to be held in Rawalpindi, Multan and Lahore, will now be held in UAE. The board said that soon the entire program of matches will be released with dates and places.
Earlier, on Thursday, PCB suddenly canceled the match between the proposed Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings in Rawalpindi.
