Delhi: India’s young batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi has said that even after scoring a century, Indian Test captain Shubman Gill has got a lot of inspiration to see him easily without pressure. He also said that he wants to perform in the coming matches and perform in the same way.
In the fourth ODI played against England at Worster on Saturday, Suryavanshi played an explosive innings of 143 runs in just 78 balls while playing for the India Under-19 team. With this, he has become the fastest century in young ODI and has become the youngest batsman to score a century.
In a video released on the BCCI’s ‘X’ account, Suryavanshi said, “I saw Shubman Gill playing. He continued batting very easily even after scoring 100 and 200 runs. The same thing inspires me a lot. I too will try to score 200 runs in the next match and play for 200 runs for a full 50 overs. The more runs I will score, the better for the team.”
Suryavanshi told that he was not aware of his record until he returned to the dressing room. He said, “I did not know that I had made a record. Our team manager Ankit Sir told me, then everyone congratulated me.”
India defeated England by 55 runs in this match to take an unassailable 3–1 lead in the five-match series. Suryavanshi hit 13 fours and 10 sixes in his 143 -run innings and his strike rate was 183. India, batting first, scored 363 runs for 9 wickets. In response, the England team was reduced to 308 runs in 45.3 overs. Naman Pushpak bowled brilliantly for India and took 3 wickets for 63 runs.
Suryavanshi broke the record of Kamran Ghulam of Pakistan by completing a century in 52 balls, who scored a century in 53 balls against England in 2013. This record from India was earlier in the name of Raj Angad Bawa, who scored a century in 69 balls against Uganda in the Under-19 World Cup of 2022.
Not only this, Suryavanshi has now become the youngest batsman to score a century in youth cricket. He is only 14 years and 100 days old. He broke the record of Najmul Hussain Shanto of Bangladesh, who scored a century at the age of 14 years and 241 days.
