Delhi: Sri Lankan cricket team veteran opener Dimuth Karunaratne has announced his retirement from international cricket. Karunaratne will say goodbye to cricket after the second Test against Australia in Gaul. This match will also be the 100th Test match of his career. Karunaratne said, “If a player plays only four Tests a year, it becomes difficult for him to maintain the form and to be inspired. After the introduction of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC), we have got to play very low bilateral series in the last 2-3 years. My current form, 100th Test and the end of 2023-25 WTC session-all these are the reasons that I felt that now is the right time to retire. ”
Karunaratne scored 7172 runs in 99 Tests, including 16 centuries and 39 half -centuries. In the ODI career, he scored 1316 runs playing 50 matches, with a century and 11 half -centuries.
He performed brilliantly for Sri Lanka in a 14 -year -long international career. In such a situation, along with his retirement, Sri Lanka cricket is going to get a big shock.
