Delhi: In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Virat Kohli played another memorable innings for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). He scored an unbeaten 73 off 54 balls in the match against Punjab Kings (PBKS). In this innings, he hit 7 fours and 1 six. Thanks to his brilliant innings, RCB achieved the target of 158 runs 7 balls first. But, after the match, Virat Kohli expressed surprise at the formation of the player of the match and said that the real entitled Devdutt was a dignity.
Batting first, Punjab scored 157 runs. RCB did not start well in response. Opener Phil Soult was dismissed for just 1 run. But, then Virat and Padikal took over the innings. The two had an important partnership of 103 runs for the second wicket. Padikal scored 61 runs in 35 balls, including 5 fours and 4 sixes. His wicket fell in the 13th over.
What did Virat say after the match?
Virat Kohli stayed till the last and brought the team to victory. But, in the post match presentation, he said that he should not have received this award. He said, “I think Dev created a real difference in this match. He should get this award. I do not know why it was given to me.”
Kohli further said that he can score fast but he also wants to understand the strength of the rest of the players of the team. He said that keeping one end at this time is proving beneficial for the team.
The veteran batsman has scored 322 runs in 8 matches so far in the current season. Also, he has also made a record of 50+ scores in IPL history. He has now scored more than 50 runs 67 times, including 59 half -centuries and 8 centuries. He has left David Warner (66) behind in this case.
Significantly, RCB has won 5 out of 8 matches so far and the team has reached number three in the points table. Kohli said, “When you reach 8 to 10 digits, he matters a lot. Our effort should be to take two digits in every match.”
It is clear that Kohli is in full form this season and is playing responsibly for the team. But, his nobility that he gave the credit of the award to the teammate, shows the identity of a true leader.
