Virat Kohli recently spoke about his experience of playing in his first season of the Indian Premier League, which was also the first season of the tournament in 2008. He recalled the thrill of sharing the dressing room of Royal Challengers Bangalore with some of India’s most prominent cricketers. This legendary batsman said that along with the thrill, the burden of expectations had increased.

Talking on Geosinema’s show, Virat Kohli said that there was pressure with excitement in the debut match. I knew that my game is not yet that level. I had to prove myself. My first season did not go well due to pressure, but that experience was fantastic. I had not met anyone before – perhaps except for Zaheer Khan and Yuvraj Singh of our North Zone days.

Therefore, going to the dressing room with veterans like Anil Kumble and Rahul Dravid felt like a fictional world. But there was pressure with that enthusiasm. I knew that my game is not yet at that level, and I had to prove myself. Finally that pressure in the first season held me. Nevertheless, this experience was unforgettable.

Virat Kohli said about batting in top order

Virat Kohli said that, not getting a chance to play in the top order initially, Recalling his early years with Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kohli said, ‘I did not get much chance to bat in the top order in my first three years with RCB. I was usually sent to a lower order. So I could not perform anything special in the IPL initially.

The 2009 season was a little better for me. That year the pitches were favorable for my game, the ball was coming well on the bat and I could play my shots more freedom. This was an interesting phase of my career. From 2010, I started performing well and by 2011 I started batting at regular number three.
