Delhi: Former wicketkeeper of the Indian team Syed Kirmani believes that Virat Kohli still had a lot to give in Test cricket and he should have played a little more. He praised Kohli’s patience and mental strength.
Kohli announced his retirement from Test cricket on Monday. He played 123 Test matches for India, scoring 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85 and scored 30 centuries.
Kirmani, a member of the 1983 World Cup winning team, told PTI videos, “He could still play a lot of cricket. Everyone has to retire, but they should have played a little more. However, I respect his decision and wish for his future.”
Kohli captained India in 68 Tests and won 40 of these matches, which is the highest win for any Indian captain.
Kirmani further said, “Virat Kohli has continued to continue in cricket, the exempla that makes them the most different. He is a source of motivation and motivation for the youth. His way and mental balance to mold themselves according to the circumstances is really a worthy and an emotional player.
He said, “I don’t think he was behind the records. Perhaps the excess of cricket pushed him to this decision. Records do not matter to him. I do not think there was some kind of pressure on him while taking this decision. There was some pressure on him. Such questions that why they are retiring, or are they not in form, or are under pressure, they are all meaningless. It is a personal decision of the player.”
