Delhi: West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite has achieved such a feat in Test cricket, which is extraordinary for anyone. While playing in the second Test match against Bangladesh, he made the record of playing most consecutive Tests for West Indies. In this matter, Brathwaite left behind the great Gary Sobers, whose record stood for the last 52 years.
‘Prithvi Shaw could not collect Rs 30-40 crore till the age of 23’
West Indies is currently playing a two-Test series against Bangladesh. After winning by 201 runs in the first test, the host team took a 1-0 lead in the series. By playing in the second Test, Brathwaite made a record of playing 86 consecutive Test matches.
Sobers’ record left behind
Gary Sobers played 85 consecutive Test matches from 1955 to 1972. This record of Sobers, who retired in 1974, remained unbroken for decades. Brathwaite, who made his Test debut in 2011, has not missed a Test match since 2014 after being in and out of the team for the first three years. In recent times, no West Indies player has played so many consecutive Tests, so it will be very difficult to break Brathwaite’s record.
World record for playing most consecutive tests
The record for playing most consecutive Tests in the world is in the name of former England captain Alastair Cook, who played 159 consecutive Tests. Australia’s Mark Waugh (107 Tests) is at second place and India’s Sunil Gavaskar (106 Tests) is at third place. At the same time, New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum (101 Tests) and Australia’s Nathan Lyon (100 Tests) are also included in this list.
