Delhi: The remaining phase of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is going to start from May 17. After the postponement of the tournament, now the cricket lovers will get to see exciting matches once again. Meanwhile, Cricket West Indies (CWI) has taken a big decision and allowed its players to fulfill their commitments in the IPL, even if it is hitting the West Indies’ international program.
The CWI said in an official statement, “We accept this situation as an extraordinary situation against Ireland and England from May 21 to June 3. We have full faith in the talent and depth of the team.”
Many players from the West Indies have performed brilliantly this season. Sherfen Rutherford has scored 299 runs in 11 matches for Gujarat Titans (GT). His strike rate has been 159 and he has been seen in the role of impact player many times. At the same time, Romario Shepherd played a stormy innings of 53* runs against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), in which his strike rate was 378.
The West Indies team will play three ODIs against Ireland on 21, 23 and 25 May. After this, there will be three ODIs against England on May 29, June 1 and June 3. The T20 series will start from June 6.
The IPL 2025 consists of a total of 8 players from the West Indies – Sherfen Rutherford, Rutorio Shepherd, Andre Russell, Sunil Naren, Rovman Powell (all KKR), Nicolas Puran and Shamar Joseph (LSG), and Shimron Hetmyer (RR). Of these, only Rutherford, Shepherd and Shamar Joseph have got a place in the ODI squad.
However, Windies Cricket has confirmed that Shamar Joseph will not come to India for the remaining IPL matches. Apart from him, John will replace Rutherford for matches against Campbell Ireland. Zedia Blades have been added to the name of Shepherd’s replacement, while Hetmyer will join the national team against England, as RR has already been out of the playoff race.
The CWI said in its statement, “The safety and goodness of our players is our top priority. We are ensuring that the players get full security and mental peace in collaboration with BCCI and IPL franchises.”
