Dot balls and their importance
At the end of the match, this plant is given to the bowler who throws the most dot balls (the balls that did not score) in the match. So far, the bowlers have received this award in all matches. DOT balls are given special importance in IPL. Dot balls are shown green in graphics, and a picture of the tree is also seen on the screen of the stadium. It is part of BCCI’s ‘Indian Green Insiative’.
BCCI and Tata partnership
The BCCI has started this initiative with the Tata Group. Under this, 500 saplings will be planted on every dot ball. The initiative started with the playoffs of IPL-2023, and it was continued in the previous season as well. The purpose of this initiative is to promote environmental protection.
Selection and Awards
After the match, the bowler is selected, who has bowled the most dot balls. If there is a tie between two bowlers, the decision is taken in their economy rate or other various ways. An amount of one lakh rupees is also given to this selected bowler.
Challenge for bowlers
There is always a possibility of big runs in the IPL, because the batsmen have a heavy hand. IPL-2025 is also getting a glut of fours and sixes. In such a situation, giving one or two runs for the bowler is also considered success, but if you get success in throwing a dot ball, then it is a bigger thing. The challenge for the bowlers in T20 format has increased even more.
