Delhi: The Indian team’s long cycle of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 ended with a defeat in the Sydney Test on Sunday. Team India’s performance in this cycle was very poor. Not only this, the performance of captain Rohit Sharma was also very disappointing. On the Australia tour, he scored only 31 runs in five innings and dropped himself from the playing XI before the Sydney Test. However, Rohit has expressed confidence of returning to Test cricket.

Meanwhile, Sharma’s childhood coach Dinesh Lad told that to make a comeback in Test cricket, he should participate in domestic cricket matches. India lost the five-Test series 3-1 and missed a place in the final of the ICC WTC 2023-25 for the third consecutive time.

Dinesh Lad said that apart from winning the T20 World Cup last year, Rohit’s priorities were to win the World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup. However, after the defeat in Australia, the coach suggested that Rohit should focus on playing domestic cricket before returning to Test cricket.

Lad told IANS, “Rohit has two main goals – to win the World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup. If he wanted, he could have retired from all formats, but he retired only from T20 cricket. He should play some domestic matches to prepare for the Test matches.”

He further said, “The mentality of the batsmen has changed because of T20 cricket. Rohit is a technically strong player, as he scored good runs against England last year. If we win, people consider Rohit as the best captain, but when we lose, they say that he does not know how to captain.”

Now Rohit will be ready for the five-match T20 and three ODI series against England starting from January 22.
