Delhi: Former India wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik believes that if Shubman Gill is able to show his ODI form in Test, then he can do wonders. After retirement from Virat Kohli’s Test, Gill will now bat at number 4. This new role was informed by Rishabh Pant, the vice -captain of India at a press conference on 18 June.
Gill’s batting order will change for the third time
This will be the third time for Shubman Gill when he will land on a new position in Test cricket. First he played as an opener, then came to number 3 and now he will play at number 4.
Dinesh Karthik expressed confidence
In a video posted on Instagram, Dinesh Karthik said that Gill knows what the responsibility is on him. He said, “Shubman Gill is now replacing ‘King’. It is a big responsibility but he wants to fulfill it. If he repeated his ODI form in the Test, the world will be in his footsteps.”
Daromdar on Gill in both captaincy and batting
Being the new Test captain of India, Gill has a double responsibility. Given the poor performance of the batsmen in the recent Test series, there will be even more expectations from them.
Gill is struggling abroad
Shubman Gill has scored 1893 runs in 32 Tests, including 6 centuries. But his performance in SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia) has not been good. There he has been able to score runs at an average of just 25.70. Especially in Australia, he has scored two half -centuries, but in the rest of the countries his bat has been silent.
Gill’s record in ODIs
On the contrary, Gill’s record in ODI cricket has been excellent. He has scored 2775 runs at an average of 59.04, including eight centuries and a double century.
Karthik told the possible playing XI
Dinesh Karthik has also told his possible eleven. He has chosen KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal for the opening. Karthik feels that Jaiswal is now ready for a big challenge.
Sudarshan may get a chance at number 3
Karthik has placed Sai Sudarshan at number 3. He said that Sudarshan has also done well for India on getting IPL and limited opportunities. Now it will be seen whether he is able to perform better than the red ball or not.
Shardul Thakur can find a place
At number 8, Karthik feels that Shardul Thakur will play. He recently scored 122 runs in India’s four -day practice match and also performed well with the ball. Karthik said that lower order runs are very important and Shardul can prove to be a very useful player in it.
