Delhi: Former South African captain AB de Villiers believes that the young players of India have full potential to show something special in the upcoming Test series against England, just they need to trust themselves. During the program of an NGO ‘Project Mumbai’ on Saturday, De Villiers said that this is the right time for the new generation cricketers to prove themselves.

India will start the new cycle of the ICC World Test Championship with a five -Test series against England from next month. This time the team will be led by 25 -year -old opener Shubman Gill, as senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have recently retired from Test cricket.

The team will not even get the services of veteran Ravichandran Ashwin, who announced retirement during the tour of Australia last year, while fast bowler Mohammed Shami has not been selected for the tour for fitness reasons.

De Villiers said, “Now the time has come that young players take responsibility. Shubman Gill has taken charge of captaincy and I am confident that he will play this challenge well. India has immense talent and a huge credit goes to the IPL.”

He further said, “It will be difficult to visit England, but if the players trust themselves, they can achieve something special.”
