Delhi: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batsman Dewon Conway has registered his name in a unique list in IPL history. In the match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Tuesday, he was ‘retired out’ by the Chennai team in the 18th over. In this way, Conway became only the fifth player to be retired out in the IPL. Prior to him, Ravichandran Ashwin, Earth Taide, Sai Sudarshan and Tilak Verma have retired out in the IPL. Tilak retired out against Lucknow Supergiants this season.
Jadeja was in place in place of Conway
When CSK chased 220 runs, 49 runs were needed in 13 balls in the 18th over, then conway was called out and sent to Ravindra Jadeja. After this, the pair of Dhoni and Jadeja on the field tried to win the team in the last overs, but CSK could not win.
Captain Rituraj Gaikwad told after the match why it was decided to retired Conway. He said, “The Devon keeps the ball more like a timer. He is very useful in the top order. Jaddu, his role is completely different, you know that the batsmen are struggling. We waited for him to throw the ball at the right time and then when we felt that it is necessary, we changed it.”
Significantly, CSK had to face a fourth consecutive defeat in this match. Dhoni raised hopes of winning by scoring 27 runs off 12 balls, but could not score 28 runs in the last over. Along with this, CSK points are number 9 in the table.
