Delhi: Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has not been included in the Indian team for the Champions Trophy 2025. His medical reports were sent to the BCCI and the Selection Committee, in which he was told that he has completed his rehabilitation. However, medical staff of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru could not ensure whether he would be fully fit by the tournament.
Chief selector Ajit Agarkar decided to include young fast bowler Harrshit Rana in the team in place of Bumrah, not taking any risk in this matter. Apart from this, spinner Varun Chakraborty has been given a place in the team in place of batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Report cleared but suspect on fitness
A BCCI official told PTI on condition of anonymity, “Bumrah was given a five -week break, after which he worked on his fitness in NCA. His scan reports were normal, but NCA chief Nitin Patel gave Bumrah Was not tested in match situation. Therefore, there was no guarantee of being completely fit. ”
Agarkar did not take a risk
In Ahmedabad, there was a meeting between selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar, coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Rohit Sharma. During this time it was decided whether half-incomplete fit Bumrah should be included in the team or a young player should be given a chance. Eventually, it was decided that the risk would not be taken on the injured Bumrah.
The BCCI official said, “If Bumrah had been injured again during the tournament, it could have been a big problem for the team. Earlier, he was fed quickly in a bilateral series against Australia in 2022, after which he stayed away from cricket for a year. At that time, the selection committee was being led by Chetan Sharma, but this time Agarkar did not repeat any mistake. ”
