Delhi: Indian wicketkeeper-boss Sanju Samson went to the Center of Excellence (CO) of BCCI (Cricket Control Board of India) and sought approval to re-handle his wicketkeeping. On Monday, March 31, he took a flight from Guwahati to Bengaluru and met the CO officials to get full approval.
Approval was received after surgery
After his right thumb surgery, Sanju Samson was given only partial and temporary approval to play in the IPL. As part of this approval, he had only batting in the matches of this season and did not do wicketkeeping. According to the report of Cricbuzz, now Tests will be conducted by the Department of Sport Science of his CO and will seek approval to return to his entire role.
There may be a return in captaincy
If Sanju Samson gets approval for wicketkeeping, he will also return as the captain of Rajasthan Royals (RR). He handed over the captaincy to Ryan Parag due to his partial approval and participated in three matches of this season only as a batter. In these three matches, he scored 66 against SRH, 13 against KKR and 20 against CSK.
Preparation for full responsibility
According to sources, Sanju Samson’s thumb injury is now completely cured and he is now feeling fully prepared to fulfill the responsibility of wicketkeeping. He is planning to get approval from the BCCI for the remaining IPL matches and it is expected that he will return to the role of captaincy from the next match of Rajasthan Royals, which will be about a week later.
Rajasthan Royals performance
Rajasthan Royals have seen ups and downs in the beginning of IPL 2025. After losing the first two matches, he registered his first win against Chennai Super Kings in Guwahati on Sunday night. Now his team will play outside against Punjab Kings on April 5, followed by Gujarat Titans on 9 April in Ahmedabad. Then Rajasthan Royals will play their third domestic match in Jaipur against Royal Challengers Bangalore on 13 April.
If Sanju Samson gets approval from BCCI, he can return to the captaincy along with the responsibility of wicketkeeping.
