Delhi: The final Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), and it is expected to be as exciting as the series has been. The Test matches played at the SCG at the beginning of the New Year are called the “New Year Test”, but for the last 15 years it has been known as the “Pink Test”.

Glenn McGrath Initiative

The special thing about this match is that the players of Australia and the other team present pink caps to fast bowler Glenn McGrath, and the entire stadium gets decorated in pink colour. The spectators also wear pink clothes. The third day, called “Jane McGrath Day”, is the most special part of the event. Its purpose is to raise awareness about cancer and raise funds through the McGrath Foundation.

McGrath Foundation’s purpose

The McGrath Foundation was founded in 2005 by Australian fast bowler Glenn McGrath and his wife Jane McGrath. Jane was diagnosed with breast cancer and died on June 22, 2008. The main objective of this foundation is to provide help to cancer victims. Cricket Australia adopted this initiative in 2009 and since then every New Year Test has been held as the “Pink Test”. The first Pink Test was played against South Africa.

This time the scope of pink test increased

Earlier the Pink Test was meant to help breast cancer victims, but from this year the foundation has decided to help people suffering from all types of cancer. According to the foundation’s website, “For 20 years we have served breast cancer victims. “Now we want to extend our nursing care to all types of cancer patients, because no person should have to deal with the pain of cancer alone.”
