Delhi: Before the last match of India vs Australia series, Gautam Gambhir took part in the pre-match press conference in place of captain Rohit Sharma. The head coach has not clarified whether captain Rohit will play in the final Test against Australia to be held at the Sydney Cricket Ground or not. Australia is currently leading 2-1 in this four-match series. India started the first match of the series with a record win in Perth, but after that had to face defeat in two of the three matches played.

‘The head coach is here and that’s enough’

The victory in Perth came under the captaincy of fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah. After this, defeats in Adelaide and Melbourne and before that India’s 3-0 defeat in the home series against New Zealand, have increased the problems for Rohit Sharma.

Gambhir took part in the pre-match press conference, whereas captains usually interact with the media on the eve of matches. When asked about Rohit’s absence, Gambhir said, “Rohit is absolutely fine, there is nothing to worry about. The head coach is here and that’s enough. We will decide our playing eleven after inspecting the pitch tomorrow.”

When reporters asked for more information on the subject, Gambhir reiterated, “As I said, a decision will be taken tomorrow after looking at the pitch.”

Rohit’s poor performance

Along with captaincy, Rohit Sharma’s performance with the bat also remains a matter of concern. In the current Australia tour, he has scored only 31 runs, in which he registered a double digit score only once.

This situation has raised questions on both Rohit’s captaincy and form. Now it remains to be seen whether he becomes a part of the team in the last Test to be held in Sydney or not.
